Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Serve as the key advisor to the dean of the law school on matters relating to student recruitment, admissions, and the awarding of scholarships for the J.D. program. Lead the overall development and implementation of recruitment and admissions strategies to achieve enrollment goals. Award all scholarships for new and continuing J.D. students. Supervise admissions office staff.
COMMUNICATIONS
Communicate with prospective and admitted students through formal marketing materials, in person, and through email correspondence. Respond to inquiries from enrolled students in person and writing concerning scholarship awards and policies. Give admissions presentations to prospective student groups ranging in size from 5 to 150+ students. Provide regular updates to the admissions committee and law school faculty concerning admissions and enrollment. Serve as primary advisor to the dean of the law school concerning admissions strategies.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide outstanding service to prospective law students and ensure that admissions
applications are processed and reviewed in a timely manner. Ensure that all prospective
students receive timely and accurate responses to their inquiries.

Special Schedule Requirements
Some weekends and evenings required for admissions events and recruitment travel.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. J.D. preferred. Admissions experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Must have proven leadership capabilities and success managing an office team, creating and implementing projects, and identifying opportunities for advancement. Must be able to handle conflicts fairly and diplomatically. Strong written and oral communication skills required. Some travel required.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
Supervise 2 exempt professional staff (Director of Admissions and Associate Director of Admissions) and 2 non-exempt support staff (Senior Law Admissions Assistant and Law Admissions Assistant). Supervise 2 to 3 student employees, each working 10 to 15 hours per week. Plan and oversee the admissions and scholarship budgets.
Physical Environment and Requirements
Occasional travel to law school forums and undergraduate recruitment programs around
the country. Travel to events may require long drives or air travel. During the file review
season (November through June), approximately 50% of time spent reading admissions
applications and reviewing statistical reports. Approximately 30% of the time spent using
the computer software to read/respond to emails, access the admissions database, and run statistical reports.
Certifications and Licenses

Valid driver’s license preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibility
Develop policies and strategies concerning recruitment, enrollment, and scholarship awards for the J.D. and LLM programs in Taxation and Family Law. Plan and direct the evaluation of admissions applications. As a voting member of the admissions committee, review law school applications and make decisions on applicants’ admission. Award all scholarships for entering and continuing J.D. students.

Create, analyze and maintain statistical reports regarding prospects, applicants and enrolled students.

Plan and direct student recruitment and marketing activities, including on-campus recruitment programs, law school fairs, receptions, marketing materials, mailings, and the Office of Admissions website. Give admissions presentations at open houses, admitted student programs, and prelaw groups.

Direct the admissions counseling function of the office. Meet with prospective students, applicants, and admitted students regarding the law school admissions process and the programs and opportunities available at Chicago-Kent.
