WEI is looking for a candidate who understands general accounting principles and procedures to help prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting for both sponsored and non-sponsored funds.

Responsibilities:
Performs general accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions.
15% Organizes, prepares, and updates basic financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
15% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements basic solutions as needed
15% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
15% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
10% Assists in preparing budgets and financial projections
20% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments
10% Monitors and acts as main contact for all capital equipment purchased on GLBRC grant funds for tagging and reporting purposes
Tasks:
Assists PIs and staff with preparing and submitting travel reimbursements through UW-Madison travel system
Acts as a liaison with UW-Madison Purchasing, provides purchasing policy guidance, prepares documentation for purchases under $5,000 and prepares and provides required documentation for requisitions for high-dollar equipment purchases
Provides post-award support for sponsored grant management which includes assisting PIs with appropriate and allowable grant expenditure processing

Education:
Preferred
Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related is highly preferred.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Two years of relevant work experience
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail as demonstrated by application materials
- Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to work independently as well as demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely fashion with accuracy, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines
- Knowledge and skills to effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds

Preferred:
Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following:
- Experience using financial and research administration software such as ShopUW+, WISPER and WISER
- Experience with fund accounting
- Experience in a university research environment
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and other sponsor regulations related to sponsored projects
- Experience analyzing budgets and interpreting contracts, regulations, and guidelines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external partners
- Strong analytical problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to take ownership of the resolution of problems, and be flexible and accountable.

Work Type:
Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. This position will work, at minimum, 3 days per week in-person, and at maximum, 2 days per week remotely.
