Job Summary
The Ford School is looking for an experienced, strategic, and enthusiastic leader to oversee the daily administrative operations of the school, with primary oversight of the budget and fiscal health. Reporting to the Dean, the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) will partner with the dean, associate deans, and senior leadership to ensure business operations support the school's academic vision, mission, and goals. You will manage the infrastructure functions of budget, finance, research finance, business intelligence, human resources, facilities, and IT. You will be a member of the senior leadership team for the school.

Responsibilities*
Strategy

Advise dean and faculty leadership on complex problems, process/policy, process improvement, faculty governance, and organizational planning
Execute complex financial modeling for school initiatives, programs, and courses, optimizing the use of financial resources and leveraging programs in Provost Office and cross-campus to maximize the school's ability to meet mission
Provide guidance to the dean and leadership team to translate the school's vision into reality
Manage the school's annual budget proposal to Provost, including narrative, financial projections, and requests for funding support
Liaison with Provost's Office and Provost's Office of Budget & Planning
Advise and assess risk, and provide decision-making support based on quantitative and qualitative data
Advise faculty on issues related to funding optimization, cost-sharing, and people management
Leverage business intelligence and data to support policy development
Offer creative, innovative approaches to problem solving; maintain awareness of trends across UM campuses and higher education to inform strategic planning and risk management
Management, Mentoring

Manage infrastructure functions of the school including Business & Finance, Research Grants/Financials, HR, Business Intelligence, Facilities, IT
Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to managerial staff and faculty supervisors, as well as direct reports
Supervise core team including Facilities Manager, Research & Business Manager, Business Intelligence Analyst, HR Director
Provide mentoring and administrative supervision for research center lead staff
Represent the school on various standing and ad-hoc campus committees; stand in for associate deans/dean as appropriate
Operations Management

Review grant proposals and assist with complex questions, funding arrangements, and sponsor requirements
Provide primary and/or backup approval for core admin systems including faculty conflict of interest and conflict of commitment (COI/COC) disclosures, grant proposal school sign-off authority
Collaborate with dean's office team on staffing, managing general office operations
Provide primary and/or backup approval for financial transactions including journal entries, non-po vouchers, and consultant payments
Communicate with staff and faculty regularly regarding administrative changes, new resources, onboarding of faculty, and other operational communications
Oversee proper internal controls and ethical stewardship of University resources
Manage and oversee Business Continuity Planning and emergency management protocols for the school
Required Qualifications*
Master's degree in Business Administration, finance or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10+ years experience in leading teams, both with direct and indirect reporting relationships
10+ years experience with financial management and budget preparation, including budget projections, planning in context of higher education
Experience in higher education
Demonstrated passion and commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
