Description:Per course adjunct faculty in the Counseling Department for the Forensic Psychology program's course, FPSY 615-01.

Qualifications:
FPSY 615 Motivational Conversations - Focus on Change (2 Units)

Thursdays 7:15 - 9:00 PM.

The aim of this class is to explore the evidence-based skill/strategy known as Motivational Interviewing (MI). Included will be information on the Transtheoretical Theory of Change Model (TTM - also known as the Stages of Change), Seeking Safety, and general information on trauma. These new paradigms & practices help us in a variety of roles to shift from the old problem-centered disease model of interventions in substance use disorders care and other behavioral disorders of clients to ones based in science and true compassion/empathy. These evidence-based practices, such as MI, and other person-centered ways of conversing, of interacting with those we serve, act as a place of origin when designing client interventions.

Qualifications

Clinical, law enforcement or community corrections professional work experience. Knowledge of forensic criminal court proceedings and court ordered assessments, experience with diverse populations in corrections, institutions or out of custody mandated treatment. LMFT, LFCC, Ph.D., Ed.D, Psy.D.

Knowledge of and professional experience utilizing motivational interviewing and other person-centered ways of conversing when designing client interventions

Prior teaching experience preferred.
