POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Director of Budget and Financial Reporting, the Budget Analyst position performs a variety of complex technical and specialized functions to ensure accuracy, transparency, and integrity in support of the university’s multi-faceted budget structure. Responsibilities include building and managing budgets and databases, creating budget forecasting-based guidelines, performing risk audits and analysis, providing high-level budget support including document processing and records management, and preparation of analysis and reports for the university.

Additional position functions also include reviewing and formatting initial budgets, processing and reconciling budget transfers, performing ad hoc budget research, providing budget training, general budget assistance, and assisting the Director of Budget and Financial Reporting and campus community with continual budget analysis and other projects and duties as assigned.

Success in this role requires a high degree of interpersonal interaction, as well as self-directed autonomous and innovative work. It is required that the employee be on-campus, in-person but occasional remote work is possible.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop organizational budget with managers.
Review proposals for completeness, accuracy and compliance with university standards.
Consolidate university budgets for review.
Monitor spending and keep the university within its set budget.
Knowledge of university budgets and budget reconciliation methods, Ellucian (Colleague) financial systems, accounting and financial principles and practices, statistical analysis and creation of databases.
Database management and advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft products.
Research and analyze information and provide accurate data to assist in budget decision-making processes.
Awareness of university and departmental policies, procedures and operations.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively, set priorities, and organize and coordinate information effectively by composing reports and other types of correspondence including data visualization.
Work well and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and perform duties with minimal supervision.
Ability to work with and safeguard highly confidential information.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the university.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of university students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field
Five years direct, full-time, paid work experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Higher education budget experience
Master’s degree in business, finance or related field
