Job Description

Responsibilities for this role include 95% clinical practice assignment which includes functioning as an Advanced Practice Provider within the Cardiac Critical Care Complex, including patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Care Unit. The incumbent will act as a change agent for patients by incorporating the role of clinical expert, role model, consultant, educator, practitioner, researcher, and nurse leader; provide clinical expertise to patients and families by providing direct and indirect patient care; collaborate with the healthcare team in assessing, designing, implementing, and evaluating population-based programs of patient care to enhance high quality and cost-effective patient outcomes.

The position also includes a faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee College Health Science Center within the College of Nursing with ample opportunity for academic growth in addition to the opportunity to progress to a terminal nursing degree with options for PhD or DNP tracks. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned division according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.
Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Collaborating Physician. Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
Collaborates with Medical Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients. Makes referrals as appropriate.
Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses, and support staff. Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.
In addition, 5% educational responsibilities in the College of Nursing will be determined in collaboration with Department Chair and Director of Advanced Practice.

Basic Qualifications:

Earned Master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty from an accredited university required.
Current DEA certification, and must be certified in Basic Life Support.
Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and advanced practice nurse (APN) in Tennessee or eligibility to obtain licensure in Tennessee required.
Current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care.
Academic rank is based upon academic credentials.
Departmental Preferences:

Three years of clinical practice experience at the RN level.
Experience in the role of an APRN is preferred.
