Qualifications:
HS 333, Environmental Health, will explore the health effects of toxic chemicals on biological systems and their movement through environmental matrices. This is a writing intensive course in which students learn about the properties of toxic substances, biological mechanisms of action, public health impacts of exposure, environmental justice, methods of prevention, and how to evaluate related research and policy. It builds on the rhetorical and critical thinking skills used to analyze texts developed in WRIT 201 and upon the fundamental biological and chemical concepts presented in introductory biology and chemistry. The research paper will prepare students with the skills to research and present on a range of topics in the health science discipline. Required for all Health Science majors. Three hours of lecture per week.
This course fulfills the Writing in the Discipline requirement for Health Science majors. Students may take this course in or anytime after the spring semester of sophomore year and after completing introductory chemistry and biology.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2025 Spring term on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 - 3:10 pm.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in Environmental Health, Nutrition, or a closely related field and undergraduate teaching experience. Preference will be given to those who have previously taught the course or HS-133.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $9,932 - $13,744 (4 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
