What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an experienced R&D Systems Engineer to serve as a Weapon Program Lead within Department 7515 (Modernization Production & System Integration). Dept 7515 is accountable to NNSA and DOD for delivering critical NW components in support of current modernization programs. The Weapon Program Lead serves as the primary interface between external customers (e.g., NNSA, Navy, Air Force), the Weapons Engineering & Production (WE&P) office, weapon systems organizations, and component organizations in the communication and execution of all technical & programmatic scope for Sandia Production components. The Weapon Program Lead is a high-visibility position that offers significant opportunities for career growth. On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Build and sustain strong working relationships with NNSA, DOD (Air Force and Navy), internal Systems customers, Product Realization teams, and external production agencies (LANL, Kansas City, Savannah River, Pantex).
- Present technical and programmatic updates to SNL leadership and external customers.
- Serve as the primary production representative for NW modernization programs through the negotiation, management, and delivery of production requirements for several components.
- Understand technical aspects of component production to communicate all program requirements, issues, and risks to internal and external customers.
- Guide PRTs as needed in meeting production requirements throughout product lifecycle.
- Conduct technical and programmatic State-of-Health assessments to report program status.
- Plan and direct Weapon Program Team tasks, ensuring all required activities are delivered on time with emphasis on quality, schedule, and budget.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. This position will require moderate travel in support of program reviews.
Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM field plus five years of related experience or Masters in a STEM field and at least one year of related experience.
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent

- Experience in one or more of the following technology areas; Microsystems, Power Sources, Explosives, Neutron Generators.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies impacting design, development, and production activities and projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion and talent for fostering constructive working relationships with our customers and partners.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer and partner organization needs.
- Basic understanding of budget, funding and Earned Value principles or related project management experience
About Our Team:
Department 7515 (Modernization Production & System Integration) has production responsibility for technically complex, high reliability weapon components in support of current NW modernization programs (B61-12, W88 ALT 370, Mk21 Fuze, W80-4, W87-1). This department works closely with the Project & Product Management Center (10400) and our partners at NNSA, SFO, Navy, Air Force, Sandia’s systems and sub-assembly organizations, and next-assembly production agencies (Kansas City, Savannah River, and Pantex).

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
