Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The primary mission of the Dr. Henry M. Eldridge Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is to prepare students, especially those from historically underrepresented groups, to enter careers in mathematics, computer science, cybersecurity, technology, engineering, and education and to continue their education beyond the undergraduate level.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin in August 2025. Responsibilities of the position include teaching, research, student mentoring, and university and community service. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, or a closely related field with at least 18 credit hours of mathematics courses at graduate level (ABD will be considered if award of Ph.D. degree can be expected before start of employment).

Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state. Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, today FSU serves a growing student body of approximately 7,000 and ranks among the nation’s most diverse campus communities. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers B.S. degrees in Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Mathematics with approximately 550 majors.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The position’s primary purpose would be to teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to its majors and minors and to majors from other departments.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
An earned doctoral degree in Mathematics or a related field from an accredited institution with at least 18 credit hours of mathematics courses at graduate level.
