Research Assistant I - Pediatric Nutrition
Job Description
Summary
Support research on the role of nutrition in the regulation of muscle growth. Work with the PI, Postdoctoral Fellows, and technical staff to investigate the effects of premature birth and dietary interventions on protein synthesis, intracellular signaling, and metabolism. Plan, complete, and occasionally supervise research projects in accordance with the general plans approved by the PI.
Job Duties
- Conduct animal research studies with neonatal pigs including surgeries, husbandry, clinical care, and specimen collection.
- Perform analytical work on collected specimens using a variety of biochemical, cellular, and molecular techniques for determination of protein synthesis, nutrient signaling, and cell growth.
- Perform cellular and molecular methods and protocols to quantify protein and gene expression using Western immunoblotting, enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), and Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR.
- Conduct biochemical assays using colorimetric, fluorometric, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assays.
- Document experiments and analyze and summarize data.
- Work with laboratory personnel to complete research studies.
- Assist with development and implement of standard operating procedures for the laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
