The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is actively seeking a faculty member at the rank of Instructor to serve as a Clinical Nurse Educator. The Clinical Nurse Educator for MCG, Savannah campus is a key member of the Experiential Learning team, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning, Savannah. In this role, the Clinical Nurse Educator will be responsible for and involved in all aspects of the implementation and management of the Medical College of Georgia's undergraduate medical education curriculum. This position, along with the Director of Operations Experiential Learning, Savannah and the Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning, Savannah, will work with the MCG Experiential Learning team and curriculum directors to ensure high-quality education through the design and execution of experiential learning. They will help coordinate the curriculum with the other areas of Experiential Learning including Educational Simulation. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
1) Collaborate with key stakeholders to design, coordinate, and implement a curriculum that meets MCG UME learner goals, objectives, and the school's competency-based objectives in a manner consistent with the standard Experiential Learning processes.
2) Coordinate and collaborate with the MCG Experiential Learning team and curriculum directors to design, measure and implement a UME-focused ultrasound curriculum.
3) Independently coordinate, grade and evaluate medical students, residents and fellows.
4) Independently coordinate, grade, and evaluate activities as part of the pre-clerkship and clerkship and Patient Centered Learning course.
5) Coordinate and collaborate all training activities MCG Experiential Learning.
6) Participate in the organizational structure of Experiential Learning, including development, planning, and implementation.
7) Manage equipment and supplies as needed to fulfill the clinical and educational mission of the Experiential Learning.
8) Support the Director of Operations Experiential Learning, Savannah and the Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning, Savannah. Implement data collection, and analysis of research activities of MCG curriculum.
9) When required as part of school wide reviews report UME programs activities to accrediting bodies such as the LCME.
10) Participate in all Experiential Learning meetings.
11) Participate in/contribute to various MCG events in the academic calendar, and in OAA organized meetings, retreats, conferences & professional development days. As your duties permit, participate in/contribute to other academic organizations' events & programs (AAMC, Sim meetings)
12) Provide input into the design, development, and implementation of all bedside educational procedure activities in collaboration with content experts (specialty faculty), MCG curriculum developers, and other stake holders. Ensure standards of quality and effectiveness of the educational program, ensure content is aligned and integrated in the curriculum, and perform periodic review and evaluation of the program to identify opportunities and make recommendations for growth and improvement.
13) Act as a liaison for MCG bedside procedure-based learning experiences for experiential learning throughout case preparation, room setup, and events and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- Experience in education administration/educational leadership positions and teaching medical learners.
- Strong organizational and managerial skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to educating various groups of learners across the medical education continuum.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively & work with members of the academic & clinical community.
- Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in interpersonal and group communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger geographically dispersed team.
- Comfort with emerging educational technologies including ultrasound, VR, AR and AI.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
