Summary

The Cardiovascular department is seeking an entry level, professional nurse who possesses basic and general knowledge of nursing practices. This position will work with a small research team to test and develop new drug treatments for the management of patients with lipid disorders. The role of the research nurse may vary daily depending on specific studies or trials, with an expectation of patient care in clinical research, academic reporting and record maintenance responsibilities. On occasion, serving as back up in the private lipid clinic may also be required.

Job Duties

  • Provides professional nursing skills involving patient related research efforts within the Center for Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention (CCDP) Clinic.
  • Is esponsiblefor patient care in a clinical research area and on occasion serve as back up in the private lipid clinic.
  • Screens and enrolls subjects according to study protocol; obtaining blood and other specimens for tests and processing specimens, performing EKGs, administering medications, recording data for research analysis, and maintaining patient and research records in paper charts and electronic data systems.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record sytem (EPIC) for reviewing medical records and patient communications.
  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Recruits, screens, enrolls and evaluate patients that participate in a research study.
  • Schedules study visits and meetings related to studies.
  • Collects study specimens and check subjects’ vital signs.
  • Administer study medications.
  • Follows subjects’ progress and advises the Principal Investigator.
  • Maintains patient charts and medical records.
  • Ensures the clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Educates patients in significant aspects of study.
  • Serves as a liaison and distributes research information to faculty, research staff, principle investigator, and others as required.
  • Assists in developing the clinical trial agreement.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment.
  • Stocks and orders supplies.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Experienceworkingin a Cardiovascular clinical area.
