Job Description
The Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing (CON), University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OU), seeks outstanding nurse clinicians and researchers who share the University’s high standards for innovative and collaborative practice and research that revolutionizes nursing practice, fosters health equity, and improves health outcomes. Faculty candidates with active clinical practices, APRN certification, and/or a promising active program of research, and teaching expertise are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing faculty and contribute to the continued growth of our academic and research programs in the college and university. Most recently, the College received funding to expand our clinical research and educational enterprise across the State. To support these initiatives, we have faculty openings for Instructors, modified positions, at multiple sites in Oklahoma.
Faculty appointments will be based on the candidates’ academic preparation, level of expertise, and experience. All faculty are expected to contribute to the academic mission of the CON by operationalizing the interdependence among education, research, and practice/service.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality instruction (didactic, experiential, simulation, etc.) and interprofessional learning experiences by incorporating the latest research, knowledge, and theory into all instruction
- Update course content, courses, and curriculum according to the CON policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to advance the education, research and service mission of the College and University.
- Maintain current knowledge and competence in area of expertise.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum, teaching materials, and evaluation at all levels.
- Seek new and better devices, techniques, online technologies, procedures, and methods to improve the teaching and learning process.
- Recognize individual needs of students and provide challenging learning opportunities for all learners while maintaining a supportive learning environment.
- Provide academic/career advisement and encouragement to students through formal and informal conferences.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based teaching strategies to supplement and improve instruction and ensure student outcomes.
- Assign grades that reflect student achievement and progress.
- Provide timely and appropriate feedback to students.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
- Develop continuing education opportunities.
- Remain active in their fields of study through research.
- Contribute to one’s science through dissemination; articles, books, presentation of findings, and in other ways.
- Seek intramural and extramural funding to advance one’s research.
- Leverage professional expertise and experience to engage in service to the department, CON, OUHSC, the community, and their one’s.
- Promote the OUHSC CON positively to the community and to current and future students.
- Work collaboratively with department chair/site coordinator to determine annual instructional workload assignment. implement and evaluate clinical practice and outreach as they relate to the OUHSC CON master plan for evaluation.
- Support the OUHSC CON mission and vision.
- Other duties as required by the Department Chair/Site Director and/or Dean.
Licensure: Eligible for or hold current registered nurse license for the State of Oklahoma is preferred. Unlicensed faculty may not teach undergraduate and graduated clinical nursing courses.
Education: Graduate degree in Nursing and Terminal Degree in Nursing, Health, Science or Social Science Related Field, preferred. Faculty teaching in the PhD Program must meet the Graduate College faculty appointment guidelines for Associate Member or Full Member Appointment at level 3 or 4 authority.
Experience:
- 2 years of clinical practice experience for licensed applicants required
- Faculty teaching in advanced practice programs (NP and CNS) must hold appropriate specialty certification and have a minimum of one year of advanced practice registered nurse experience in the specialty.
- 2 years higher education teaching preferred
- A record of scholarship and extramural funding preferred

- Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence.
- Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner
- Ability to exercise astute judgment in all matters related to academic affairs
- Proficient with MS Office applications, learning management software and other technology used in teaching, research and practice.
