The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Medical College of Georgia (Georgia's only public academic medical center) at Augusta University is expanding its research programs and is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor. Successful applicants will have research interests in the areas of benign, malignant and age-related diseases, molecular signaling, inflammation/immunology, gene/epigenetic regulation, biomarkers, and targeted-therapy or in novel areas with translational research appeal. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's robust extramural grant portfolio, as well as, contribute to the department's education mission and graduate and post-graduate training programs. The candidate will have access to departmental and institutional state-of-the-art cores and equipment, biotelemetry, genome editing of mice/rats, next generation and 10x single cell sequencing, bioinformatics, and advanced microscopy/imaging, flow-cytometry, mass spectrometry, Seahorse XFEs, small-animal imaging and MRI. Candidates with established extramural research programs are desirable. Candidates should have extramurally funded research programs. This position is considered to be on tenure track. Responsibilities
- Teaching: Faculty will be expected to contribute to the department's education mission and graduate and post-graduate training programs - 20% (essential)
- Research: research interests that complement those of existing research faculty in the department (e.g. benign and malignant disease process, molecular signaling, stem cell biology, gene/epigenetic regulation, biomarker discovery, chemoprevention, targeted therapy and immunology/inflammation) or in novel areas with exceptional translational research appeal -70% (essential)
- Institutional and community services: faculty will have excellent communication skills and must be able to work on a team and serve on department and institutional committees -10% (essential)
Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD in Life Sciences, or equivalent) from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
