Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of biology artificial intelligence starting preferably in August 2025. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level but an appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular, the Department is seeking a qualified candidate who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in biology whose research programs use big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to drive innovation in understanding, predicting, and solving complex biological problems and or disorders. Likewise, applicants who are interested in using these techniques to study evolutionary or precision medicine to address health disparities are also encouraged to apply.

The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching, teach Biology courses at the graduate and under-graduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community.
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in using artificial intelligence techniques, big biological data, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of PhD and MS students in applied biological science and related areas. Mentoring undergraduate students is also expected. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts promote the mission of the Biology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and technology areas is encouraged.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Biology’s core mission encompasses excellence in teaching, cutting-edge research, and meaningful service to both students and the broader community. The Department of Biology currently has 24 full-time faculty members to support the teaching and research needs of our undergraduate and graduate students. The undergraduate enrollment currently is over 835 Biology majors. The MS graduate enrollment averages 15 students, and we train PhD students as part of the AST program in Applied Bioscience with an enrollment of 30 PhD students.
Minimum Requirements
The applicant must have a PhD in the biology related-field area of specialty requested, and be able to be credentialed to teach in biology. The applicant should at minimum have completed a postdoctoral fellowship or appointment in the research focus area or have been served as a research associate with training in the area of specialty requested.

1. A research and pedagogy plan that can attract funding from various granting agencies
2. Experience in biology or related field
3. Postdoctoral research in biology or related field
4. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other faculty and colleagues
5. Demonstrated record of independent research and publishing
