Job Description

The School of Earth, Environment, and Society (SEES) at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) invites applications for a renewable, full-time (9-month), qualified-rank (non-tenure-track), Assistant Teaching Professor position in atmospheric sciences or related field (e.g., meteorology, climatology) beginning in August 2025.

The School of Earth, Environment, and Society (SEES) is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College, aligned with the university’s strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world’s challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service toward achieving inclusive excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. SEES offers both natural and social science courses and programs, including undergraduate degrees in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy and Analysis, Geology and Geography. The School also offers graduate programs in Geology and Applied Geospatial Sciences. By bridging the natural and social sciences, SEES prepares students for a variety of careers relevant to important societal issues, including water and energy resources, climate change and sustainability. Essential Functions

Teach undergraduate courses focusing on weather, climate, and meteorology as well as other undergraduate courses in their area(s) of expertise. Teaching is primarily done in person with the possibility of some online classes
Use inclusive pedagogies and design courses with a focus on student learning
Mentor and advise undergraduates
Provide service at the department, college, university, professional, and community level
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in atmospheric science or related field (e.g., meteorology, climatology)
Teaching experience at the collegiate level (e.g., course instructor, teaching assistant, guest lecturer)
Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in atmospheric science or related field (e.g., meteorology, climatology). ABDs will be considered if the requirements for the degree are completed by August 2025.
Teaching experience at the collegiate level as the instructor of record or teaching assistant in courses where there is a focus on atmospheric science or related field (e.g., meteorology, climatology)

Candidates invited for on-campus interviews must provide unofficial transcripts of the highest degree earned and a sample syllabus and assignments that illustrate inclusive pedagogy or student learning-focused course design. Syllabus and assignments may be from previous or proposed courses.

Finalist will be required to submit official transcripts and written letters of reference.

BGSU policy requires finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
