Job Summary
The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a Marketing Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is the center of Earth sciences at Oregon State University. Our scientists and students are on the frontlines of discovery, from the depths of the ocean to remote mountain peaks, and from the state-of-the-art labs that line our halls to the communities that we serve with the outcomes of our research. The Marketing Specialist will be part of a dynamic and talented team whose mission is to share the college’s cutting-edge science with outside audiences and communities, including alumni, donors, prospective students, K-12 students, and communities affected by and interested in our science.

The Marketing Specialist will develop and implement a variety of integrated marketing strategies and projects to help publicize CEOAS’s science and academic programs. The position is responsible for marketing the college’s research and academic programs via products including (but not limited to) web content, social media posts and campaigns, other digital marketing, and print pieces. Audiences for these marketing initiatives include prospective undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, donors and others. With the support of the director, the specialist collaborates with the college’s undergraduate and graduate student services offices as well as alumni, marketing, and student recruitment organizations across the university.

The position reports to the CEOAS Director of Communications and Marketing, and is a member of the college Communications and Marketing Team. As a member of that team, the marketing specialist will:
Work with the team to conceptualize and implement digital marketing campaigns using established branding.
Lead the development of social media, web and e-news content, and participate in related strategy and planning to ensure digital platforms align with college goals.
Undertake basic market research to inform digital marketing strategies
With the support of the director, collaborate with CEOAS student services offices, the university’s admissions team, and personnel from the OSU Alumni Association, OSU Foundation, and University Relations and Marketing to plan, implement and assess marketing approaches, including web and social strategies and technologies.
Prepare content for print pieces aimed at core audiences.
Assist with internal communications and marketing of events.

Key Responsibilities
20% Digital marketing development and coordination
Collaborates with communications/marketing team director and partners to develop goals and strategies for effective and inclusive digital marketing campaigns; manages the full scope of creating, reviewing, and publishing social media posts and other products
Collaborates with the communications team to develop content ideas and creates social media posts
Develops methods for increasing social media engagement for a wide variety of audiences
Monitors social media channels for problems and for relevant news
Tracks and reports on performance metrics
Develops paid content and advertising on social media platforms as needed

15% Website content development
Works with the communications team and key college personnel (e.g., student services, academic program heads) to develop the college’s website content strategy
Prepares content that incorporates diverse perspectives and voices for college website consistent with that strategy and with accessibility and SEO best practices
Tracks and reports on performance metrics

20% Writing for print marketing pieces
Leads production of some printed materials aimed at student recruitment and for other audiences (alumni, donors, etc.), utilizing language reflective of these diverse audiences
Prepares text for printed materials aimed at those key audiences

25% Other marketing initiatives
Undertakes basic market research to inform digital marketing strategies
Works collaboratively with college and university personnel on a range of other marketing initiatives, including but not limited to undergraduate recruitment, event marketing, development of branded merchandise
Prepare content for twice-yearly electronic newsletter to alumni, in consultation with CEOAS alumni affairs director
Participate in project to update public common spaces around the college
Contributes to content development as needed (photography/videography/copywriting)

10% Internal communications
Assists with production of internal weekly newsletter
Assists with production of informational slides for screens used across CEOAS buildings
Other internal communications projects as assigned

10% Professional development and service
Assists with team building, group facilitation, workflow coordination, problem solving
Engages in professional development opportunities such as workshops, classes or conferences to further develop skills related to the position or to develop knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Participates in college events and activities, promoting a culture of inclusivity within the college
Supports other marketing and communications duties, as assigned and capacity allows
Serves on committees as time and interest permit

What You Will Need
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or digital/multimedia communications and one year of experience with digital communications, or a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated discipline and at least three years of experience with digital communications.
Experience with applying market research to campaign strategies.
Experience with creation of online and social media marketing content.
Experience with basic market research.
Strong writing skills, especially copy for social media, web sites, print publications, media ads and electronic newsletters.
Experience with modifying voice to be appropriate for different platforms and audiences.
Experience with managing priorities, deadlines and time-critical situations for multiple projects.
Experience with working effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, and a demonstrated record of working cooperatively as part of a team.
Ability to translate a dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion into digital marketing content and campaigns.
What We Would Like You to Have
In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective users, and how each platform can be deployed in different marketing scenarios.
Experience with deploying appropriate branding and developing a brand identity.
Experience working in higher education or a science-oriented institution.
Experience with interpreting technical ideas for a non-technical audience.
Content creation skills such as photography, videography, graphic design, animation.
