Director of Housing Facilities

Florida International University (FIU), located in Miami, Florida, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next director of housing facilities. This is an on-site leadership role.

Reporting to the senior director for housing and residential experience and serving as part of his senior leadership team, the director of housing facilities provides outstanding leadership and direction for the physical, operational, and environmental needs of the entire portfolio of student housing facilities at Florida International University (FIU). The director leads the daily operations for maintenance and housekeeping, oversees preventative maintenance functions and daily work orders, and schedules staff to support evening and weekend rotations and on-call staffing. The director effectively manages departmental budget development and maintenance, capital project planning, renovations, and various aspects of new construction planning; collaborates with campus stakeholders and partners on projects, committees, and issues related to student housing; and oversees the comprehensive turn-around processes in the semester transitions. The director of housing facilities leads a dynamic team of 36 professionals, including four direct reports, manages an operating budget of almost $2.6 million, and administers a capital budget of approximately $20 million.

Public Salary Range: $115,000-$125,000

Qualifications
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, facilities management, or a related field and demonstrated progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in various phases of housing and residence life, auxiliary or facility services, higher education administration, the public sector, or a similar environment. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours as needed (evenings, weekends, and holidays), attend off-campus meetings and occasional functions on weekends and evenings, and serve on-call 24/7 for possible emergencies.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, business administration, facilities, or project management; experience working at a large, public university, with demonstrated knowledge of student or multi-family housing, property management, facilities management, or a related field; proficiency in implementing capital projects, gathering and analyzing data, developing maintenance reports, presenting results to constituents, managing facilities, and administering budgets; and experience with Microsoft Office, property management software, and work order management systems.
