Job Description
SC State University Public Service & Agriculture, in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, provides an important public service to rural and underserved individuals, families, communities, and farmers needing access to the latest research-based science and sustainable practices in youth leadership development, agriculture, financial management, business development, nutrition and college and career readiness. SC State 1890 Reseach & Extension is hiring for an Economic Development State Program Leader.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Associate Extension Administrator the CED State Program Leader will:
• Facilitates long-term planning and evaluation of Extension Department CED Programs including periodic review. Develops, manages, and oversees the implementation of the CED program Target Numbers of regional programmatic activities to ensure compliance with federal and state funding sources. Directs programming efforts for relevance, completeness, effectiveness, per the Civil Rights and Affirmative Action Guidelines.
• Responsible for compilation and submission of all regional Community Economic Development Program state and federal reports as required according to the established guidelines to include program Target Numbers. Ensures program curriculum is updated and revised to keep abreast with national program trends and industry best practices.
• Assists with regional CED program committee and provides training for the implementation of successful projects and activities input and evaluation. Partners with federal, state, and local agencies and officials to develop initiatives that reflect the stakeholders’ needs and priorities throughout the state. Seeks supplemental funding for program maintenance and expansion.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate training programs that equip CED extension agents with core skills needed to build signature programs. Establishes the long-range strategic programmatic plan. Coordinates 1890 Research and Extension program events at the state level to improve SC underserved, socially disadvantaged communities’ engagement, and participation.
Minimum Requirements for Entry into Position:
Individual should possess at least a Ph.D. in a Business-related area with not less than (5) years of demonstrated experience in community and economic development activities.
Preferred Requirements for Entry into Position:
Knowledge of the Land Grant University System and the history, philosophy, organization and objections of the 1890 Cooperative Extension is desired. Experience in planning, implementation, and evaluating educational programs; ability to work with youth and adults to recruit, train and manage volunteers is required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; computer software knowledge
