What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experience Senior Manager who can amplify Sandia’s national and international impact by 1) enhancing the group’s ability to understand and counter associated risks with WMD and high-consequence materials and illicit activities, 2) growing and strengthening partnerships with current and potential sponsors, other Sandia organizations, and other laboratories, and 3) ensuring continued excellence in CBRN security mission delivery.

The selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities: (1) applying their extensive knowledge and experience in global national security risk management to manage four departments with more than 70 employees, (2) establishing and maintaining trust-based relationships with current and future sponsors and partners from DOE/NNSA, DTRA, Department of State, other laboratories, and other Sandia organizations, and (3) actively managing and developing managers and staff who often travel internationally, including travel to undeveloped and high-risk countries.

You will be expected to demonstrate and promote CGSC’s and Sandia’s mission space by leading the CBRN group and engaging with peers in the center, division, and across Sandia to support and advocate for collaborative work with domestic and foreign partners.

On any given day, the selected Senior Manager may be called upon to:

  • Represent CBRN programs and mission space to internal and external partners,
  • Oversee management of program resources, Sandia capabilities, and personnel to effectively meet customer needs with integrity, quality, and expertise,
  • Ensure a safe and healthy workplace and the safety and security of employees traveling domestically and internationally,
  • Provide expert opinion, evaluation, and advice to other Sandia programs and mission areas,
  • Provide cost, schedule, scope, and performance data and metrics for projects, and
  • Partner with colleagues to initiate, develop, and execute group, center, division, and Labs-wide plans and strategies.

Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$184,400 - $313,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant STEM field, plus ten (10) or more years of directly related experience; Or Master Degree as previously mentioned, plus six (6) or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and experience.*
  • Experience in the following:
  • Leading programs for NNSA, DTRA, or other government agencies.
  • Programmatic leadership and development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test.

*Equivalent education and experience must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience.
  • Experience working with foreign governments, businesses, and other institutions
  • Outstanding communication (written, verbal, public speaking) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor others and to establish and maintain strong and effective relationships.
  • Practical experience with systems-level technical analysis and/or physical protection systems for high consequence systems.
  • Travel experience to countries with elevated risks.
  • Basic understanding of nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction.
  • Technical understanding of chemical and biological national security issues, nonproliferation concepts, and cooperative threat reduction-based risk assessment and mitigation approaches.
  • Technical understanding of radioactive and nuclear material national security issues, risk mitigation principles, physical security concepts, and partner capacity building approaches.

The Global CBRN Security and Nonproliferation Group is dedicated to advancing our sponsors mission through effective program management and implementation for NNSA's Office of Radiological Security and DTRA's Global Chemical and Biological Security (GCBS) initiatives. Our multidisciplinary approach to global CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) security is focused on enhancing international threat reduction by promoting the safe, secure, and responsible use of hazardous CBRN agents. We provide expert technical guidance to the U.S. Government on critical issues, including security system analysis, design, and implementation; agent risk prioritization; outbreak control and management; and information management. Our comprehensive training programs cover biosafety, chemical safety, radiological security, risk awareness, disease surveillance, and diagnostics, ensuring stakeholders are well-prepared to tackle emerging challenges.Through thorough global, regional, and country-specific assessments, we engage in collaborative projects that align U.S. interests with those of foreign nations and international organizations. Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
