Job Description

The Psychology program at Emporia State University invites applications for a nine-month Assistant Professor position, to begin August 2025.



We seek a colleague who is passionate about undergraduate teaching, research, and mentorship. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, mentoring undergraduate and graduate research, maintaining an active research program, and providing service at state, regional, and national levels.



This position may be offered as a tenure-track, multi-year contract (non-tenure track up to three years), or non-tenure-track appointment, with consideration of factors including, but not limited to, academic program needs, the authority of Emporia State University, the qualifications of candidates, and consideration of the interests of candidates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching core curriculum courses such as Research Methods, Statistics, and Social Psychology.
Teaching elective courses in psychology in candidate’s area of expertise.
Teaching core graduate-level psychology courses, as well as ones in candidate’s area(s) of expertise.
Engaging in scholarly research in areas of expertise and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and academic presentations.
Supervising graduate and undergraduate student research and advising graduate students in the MS experimental program.


Research and Laboratory Resources

The Psychology Program offers laboratory space to support faculty and student research, including:

Rooms with one-way mirrors
One-on-one meeting rooms
Conference rooms
Computer lab


Interdisciplinary Collaborations

Emporia State recently reorganized academic units to enhance academic excellence and provide opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Psychology program is now located within the School of Applied Health Sciences, along with Counselor Education, Nursing, and Health and Human Performance. We are eager to begin new partnerships with students and colleagues in our new school, which could include:

Developing and teaching a psychology of health course for undergraduates
Exploring student research partnerships between students in Psychology and Health & Human Performance majors.


Community Partnerships

We are eager to cultivate community partnerships to enhance our program and provide unique opportunities for our students. These partnerships could include:

Working with local mental health providers and service organizations in Emporia and the greater northeastern Kansas area, such as Crosswinds and SOS.
Working with local senior centers and independent/assisted living centers.
Working with local correctional programs.


Graduate Programs

The candidate in this position would also contribute to one or more of ESU’s M.S. programs, particularly in Experimental Psychology and Clinical Psychology.



QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Psychology or related field with a background in psychology. ABD will be considered if you are finishing within the 25-26 academic year.
Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate level
COMPENSATION:
Salary: $53,000 - $56,000 annually
Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
