Summary
The Assistant Vice President for Clinical Research Initiatives (AVPCRI) reports to the Vice President of Research Administration and is responsible for the administrative planning and organizational activities that support the BCM Clinical Research mission. Working with leaders and investigators across BCM and affiliated institutions, the AVPCRI is responsible for implementing key initiatives in response to the changing academic research environment and of the institution. As a trusted advisor on clinical research regionally and in the hospital and clinical environments, the AVPCRI must demonstrate highly effective communication and collaborative skills. The AVPCRI must be seen as a reliable leader for research funding and regulatory content knowledge, problem resolution and collaboration, and as an advocate for research and its operational needs. International travel may be required for this role.

Job Duties
- Responsible for strategic implementation of BCM Clinical Research Mission initiatives through administrative planning, programming and establishment of identified clinical research programs and activities.
- Develops, maintains, and evaluates ongoing plans for clinical research programs that meet institution-wide needs and multiple constituencies.

Recommends resources needed to meet operational goals Leads, manages and holds institutional responsibility for clinical research infrastructure strategy implementation with a matrix oversight of:
- Clinical Trials Office including the Clinical Research Center at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and the ClinicalTrials.gov Office
- Clinical Research Business Operations including Qualifying Clinical Trials Compliance, Clinical Trial feasibility, Baylor St. Luke’s Research Administration Office, and training including electronic medical record integration with research through Epic.
- Monitors and responds to customer needs and any changes in the clinical research mission, funding agency and sponsor environment as well as research regulations and standards.
- Oversees the recruitment, retention, and development of staff within the clinical research initiatives and administration units.
- Directs the development and reporting of metrics for the clinical research initiatives and administration units.
- Leads, co-leads, or serves as member, on institutional committees including affiliate hospital joint management committees, research informational technology committees, post-award management and task force initiatives as representation of the research mission with a primary focus on clinical research initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Twelve years of relevant experience with six years of direct management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience in compliance, research, patient relations, health care, medical/academic setting and communications.
