Job Description
The Department of Management, Information Systems, and Quantitative Methods (MISQ) in the Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member, at the rank of Assistant Professor in Management with a focus in Human Resources (HR), to begin Fall 2026. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Collat School of Business offers an engaging learning environment with classrooms that extend well beyond the UAB campus. Our unique location allows our faculty to integrate the practical experiences of the State’s leading companies—from Fortune 500 corporations to entrepreneurial startups—into the programs we offer. Our students gain valuable, real-world experience through a wide variety of internships and other opportunities in the business community.
High-quality peer-reviewed research publications are emphasized and necessary for promotion and tenure. The management and HR areas within the department encompass a diverse range of research interests, including leadership, bullying/aggression, political skills, work-family dynamics, strategic management, and family business. Within the MISQ department, the applicant will find research interests that can complement management/HR, including cybersecurity, AI, data analytics, big data, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and operations management. Cross-disciplinary collaborations and other activities across the school and university are encouraged.
Primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in management and human resources. Specific teaching assignments may include online and/or face-to-face courses, requiring proficiency with the Canvas Learning Management System. The selected individual will contribute to curriculum development with the ability to work across disciplines and to integrate technology into instruction. Specifically, candidates should demonstrate experience and knowledge in using generative artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and other innovative technologies in their teaching. We especially welcome candidates whose research and teaching engage with AI and data analytics. UAB offers excellent teaching facilities and support, including multimedia classrooms and advanced computer equipment.
Required Qualifications
Applicants with an earned doctorate in Management or a related business discipline from an AACSB-accredited degree program are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to maintain a strong record of research and scholarship relating to management/HR. Teaching experience and interests in management and HR are required.
• Earned doctorate in Management or a related business discipline from an AACSB-accredited
institution.
• Demonstrated commitment to research and teaching excellence in management and human
resources.
• Demonstrated in-person and/or online teaching effectiveness, including innovative pedagogy
and student engagement.
• Experience using technology, such as generative AI and data analytics, in teaching and/or
research.
• US citizens and permanent residents.
Preferred Qualifications
• Two or more years of teaching experience at the university level.
• Two or more years of industry experience.
• Experience developing graduate and/or undergraduate curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to build community partnerships and engage with external
stakeholders.
