Under minimal supervision the Sr. Research Operations Analyst (SRO) supports daily operations within the department; independently assists with pre and post award activities including budget preparation, proposals, analysis, and project close out. Expert knowledge of sponsor institutions (i.e. S2S proposal software, GAAP, ERP/PeopleSoft) with the ability to make decisions independently and experience to be a resource to research operations analysts.
As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for:
Research Administration & Financial Management
- Pre and post-award duties.
- Generating financial reports for all assigned Principal Investigators (PIs) and chart strings.
- Coordinating proposal development and submission in collaboration with PIs, the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), the Institutional Review Board (IRB), etc.
- Developing, editing, and advising on budgets, justifications, biosketches, etc.
- Maintaining accurate allocation of personnel expenditures and effort on all chart strings within the assigned portfolio.
- Reconciling and coordinating monthly and quarterly effort certification of the assigned portfolio, processing corrective actions as necessary.
- Approving and reconciling purchase orders to verify appropriateness of expenses and availability of funds.
- Reconciling chart string activity to ensure accurate expenditure procedures are in accordance with sponsor and COH guidelines.
- Assisting in annual departmental budget preparation/development by gathering, analyzing, and reporting data as requested.
- Supporting the project close-out processes (clear encumbrances, close POs, close out sub-awards, pay invoices, etc.).
- Assisting the Business Manager (BM) and PI with contract management, including contract workflow, new agreements, and amendments.
- Under the direction of the BM, assisting with the implementation of long-range financial plans, analyses, and initiatives.
Human Resources
- Under the direction of the Business Director or Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating personnel actions for department staff and/or faculty as requested, including but not limited to:
- New hire onboarding (visa requests, AccessNet, login ID, Outlook, etc.)
- NES onboarding (visa requests, AccessNet, login ID, Outlook, etc.)
Department Support
- Assisting in department business activities, including but not limited to purchasing, facilities, travel, and reporting required by the institution.
- Coordinating building and equipment safety and maintenance, and other services.
- Coordinating lab safety training, lab coat services, and other general lab support.
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s Degree (any discipline).
- High School diploma or equivalent, and 6-8 years of experience in research administration may substitute for minimum education requirements.
- 5+ years related experience in business administration and administrative analysis (budgets, grant accounting, facility, or personnel support).
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, business administration, research administration, science, or related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in research administration is preferred.
- Pre-award and post-award grant administration experience.
- Clinical trial experience and/or familiarity with biostatistics, strongly desired.
- Research fund management, including effort tracking.
- Budget development experience.
- Experience with rate setting and tracking financial and non-financial performance metrics.
- Finance/accounting experience (not cash register).
- Strong Excel skills: pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formula linkages between worksheets and power query.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA), strongly desired.
- Can work independently and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $32.00 - $48.82 / hour
